Preheat conventional oven to 350 degrees.
Wipe down cake pans before use.
Grease bottoms of pans with butter, margarine or cooking spray and dust lightly with flour.

Be sure to wash hands. Cooking can be messy work. You might want to wear a smock or apron.

Combine chocolate cake mix, 1 egg, 1/4 cup water and 3 T oil in small bowl.
Stir with spoon until well blended (about 50 strokes). Divide batter evenly into cake pans and wiggle to distribute evenly.

Bake for 18-20 minutes.
The holiday cakes are done when toothpick inserted into center of pan comes out clean.

While baking, design your Trim-A-Tree Holiday Cakes™ on paper with Crayola crayons and markers.

Remove holiday cakes from oven and cool completely in pans.
If you wish to remove cakes from pans: cut around edges, hold waxed paper over cake and invert onto flat surface. Center plate over cake and flip once more. Now you have a smooth canvas to decorate your tree!

Mix dry frosting with 1 1/2 T warm water in small bowl. Stir with fork until smooth and set aside.

Place bowl of water and paper towel next to work area.

Spread frosting over holiday cakes.™
Review "Fun with Color" panel on instructions sheet.
Using the guide, arrange three colors from the paint palette. Make secondary colors.
Dip brush into one color and begin decorating your holiday trees.
Paint until your trees are merry and bright!

HINTS

HINT: It may be easier to decorate your holiday cakes in the pans. Plus, your decorated treats make great gifts for the season!

HINT: You can tint your frosting with the colors from the paint palette. Place frosting into a small bowl and mix primary colors to make green or any color of the season! See reverse side of instructions sheet for specific details.

HINT: For smooth, shiny surface, allow frosting to set and become firm (about 10 minutes in refrigerator).

HINT: It may be tempting to save your sweets, but Trim-A-Tree Holiday Cakes™ are best eaten the day you make them.
