My dough seems a bit dry. What did I do wrong?
Our doughs and mixes have been specially formulated to need only the addition of water. Often, as you begin to mix the dough you will notice that it forms large crumbs. Some of our recipes also ask you to moisten your hands and gather the dough together once it has become large crumbs. This is because the natural warmth of your hands will soften our dough and help to combine all the ingredients thoroughly. We realize this seems new to most of our customers but the little added work will pay off and you will find you have a very workable dough to create with.
Can't I just add another teaspoon or water and mix it with a fork?
No. If you add too much water and then go and shape the dough, you will find that it becomes sticky and loose, making creating impossible. If you find the dough to be a bit stiffer than you would like, lightly moisten your hands with water and gather the crumbs together that way.
If I don't have the right cookie cutter, can I use a paper pattern to cut out shapes?
Yes. Simply washing with warm water is usually efficient, but adding a bit of dish soap to your hands works well too.
What's the best way to tint the dough?
You can work color directly into the batter. Simply add a few drops of food coloring to the batter or dough and mix thoroughly to combine. Kids enjoy mixing with their hands, but if you want to keep things less messy, simply place the dough into a plastic sandwich baggie and ask them to squish away!
How do I tint coconut?
Dilute a few drops of food color with 1 teaspoon water in a large resealable plastic food storage bag. Add about 1 cup of flaked coconut. Close the bag and shake well until the coconut is evenly coated with color.
I didn't get to finish working with the dough. Can I freeze it for later?
We do not recommend freezing the dough or batters of any of our kits.
How long will my Crafty Cooking Kit creations last?
We recommend that you eat your designs within 24 hours, as we don't add preservatives to the mixes.
